2 Apr 2008 - Melvyn's Muse - April
It was the day of Ministerial Synod, there are not many occasions in the year that Methodist Ministers are under a three line whip to attend, but Synod is one such event. As you would imagine it comes complete with the mandatory white envelope full of agenda's, reports, flyers and the most important of all documents - travel directions.
It so happened that this year I had to attend Superintendents meetings the day before, and so Lynda had to travel separately from me to go to Synod, and those of you who know Lynda well, will know that whilst she has been blessed with many gifts, a sense of direction is not amongst them.
When we arrived at the venue for Synod it became apparent very quickly that car parking spaces were a premium in the town. With most ministers having to park a considerable distance away, and then walk.
When Lynda arrived, a little more flustered than usual, she explained that when she had parked the car, having forgotten her white envelope in which all the direction were, she proceeded to follow the man in front of her, who was carrying a white envelope, only to discover that he proceeded to the local post office, where he posted his white envelope!
How easy it is to be led astray, perhaps that is why when Jesus was preparing the disciples for all that was to happen after he had ascended to be with His Father he told them "I am the way, the truth and the life".It may not only be men with white envelopes that we follow that distract us from our destination!
